This internship with AMF has been very beneficial to me because of the opportunity I am receiving to better my skills and gain new experiences in the working world. One of the best things that Victoria, our intern director, does during our time here is the Career Connection talks. Victoria contacts and brings in former AMF interns to talk and discuss about their career path and how they got to the position they are in today.

About 3 weeks ago, we had our first Career Connection at AMF. Emily Kurzhals was an AMF intern in the Fall of 2016. She recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Communications and a Minor in Organizational Leadership, Certificate in Public Relations. Emily now works at P.L. Marketing in Cincinnati as a Space Planning Analyst for Kroger stores.

One of the biggest things I received out of Emily’s presentation was her path to finding a full-time job out of school was difficult. I am currently in the job search and there have been many times where I have felt overwhelmed. Hearing about Emily’s path and how she had a summer internship before finding a full-time job calmed my nerves a little bit because it reiterated that everyone’s path to a full-time job is different.

Another thing that this talk helped me with was the chance to question her about her resume, cover letter and interview questions. It is always good to hear ideas from another person because all employers look at resumes and cover letters differently, so having another opinion on how to write and format them could help me in the future.

I am looking forward to being able to talk with the next person coming in and hear their story about getting in to the working world.
