The 2017-2018 AMF Service Challenge is officially underway, and the students at Bracken County set the bar high with their project! These students saw the growing issue of hunger in their community, and decided it was time to make a change. From there, they turned their idea into reality, and created Bracken County’s first ever “Blessings Box.” The 24/7 Box houses items such as non-perishable food, toiletries, and baby items, and is open to anyone in the community. The purpose is to leave an item when you can, and take an item when you need it.

On October 24th, the students and faculty held a “Stock the Box” ceremony, where members of the community came to see the opening of this Blessings Box, as well as donating items. Knowing that hunger is a large issue throughout the county, they wanted to spread the word about their “Blessings Box” as quickly as they could. Student leaders handed out “business cards” to all who attended the ceremony and asked them to place them all around the county. The cards included details such as location of the Box, items available, and how often the Box will be stocked. The goal is for community members to stock the Box weekly, but come a time where it may not be stocked, student leaders at Bracken are taking initiative to stock the box as needed.  Thank you, Bracken County High School, for such an impactful Service Challenge project!

As the holidays quickly approach, the “Blessings for Bracken” Box is a great way to give back to those who may need it.
